Noah Walker Takes 2nd at Hartford 5K with Next Level Naya

Ladies and gentlemen, do not be fooled by that cherubic face. Though he may look like another reject from some Disney Channel kids show, you’d be wise to take the likes of this kid a bit more seriously than you might take the antics of Zach and Cody and their suite life. Simply put, Noah Walker is a future Pro Tour champion, just waiting to kick your ass. His portfolio of achievements reads like that of a grizzled veteran of the game. Three PTQ top-8 finishes, 1 States Top-8, 1 Nationals Qualification, top finishes at various 1K and 5K events, and most recently, 2nd place at the 2010 TCGplayer.com $5k Series – Hartford. Noah went  undefeated in the qualifying rounds piloting a deck of his own creation, a Naya aggro build splashing the likes of Soverigns of Lost Alara to help force Eldrazi Conscription into play. With “Next Level Naya” being discussed around the web, we caught up with this Junior DraftMagic.com member on Facebook.

DraftMagic: Did anyone help you build this deck?

Noah:  No, it was all me

DraftMagic: So, is Next Level Naya the best deck in standard right now?

Noah: Yeah

DraftMagic: You lost to Brilliant Ultimatum in the finals. Is that deck good?

Noah: No… game one I crushed him. Game two he drew three Baneslayers, three Path to Exiles and three Wall of Omens. Then game three he drew two Baneslayers, a Wall of Omens, a Jace, and then Brilliant Ultimatum’d into nothing he knew was gonna be there, and the forth card was Emrakul.

DraftMagic: Sucks

Noah: But my deck is so good. I’m gonna win the PTQ in Maine on Saturday

DraftMagic: A bold declaration. How do you plan to handle the competition?

Noah: I’m gonna be like “What!? What!? What!?” And then they’re gonna start crying like twelve year olds. Good thing I’m thirteen.

A more in-depth interview with Noah can be found at Mana Deprived. Good luck on Saturday Noah!
