Some members of the DraftMagic.com team took time to make it to the Scars of Mirrodin Prerelease held at X9 Games in Hadley, MA. Here a few of them share which cards have been giving them the edge, and which ones you should look out for while building your pool.
Tales from the Scars of Mirrodin Pre-Release

LMAO!!!!! O_o I’ve started reading and watching more and more on this site and it always entertains me. Thanks as always and appreciate the tips everyone gave (although mythic and rare bombs are obvious includes) Keep up the good work :)
Gak! The illusion is broken!! Human faces… arrrrrg
“Draft white! Now I’m gonna touch myself…”
Good idea for a video, could benefit from better execution in the future…
Namely, whenever someone is talking about a card, have them lay it on a surface and say the name of the card out loud. The first three speakers just sort of held the cards out, shook them at the camera some, and usually it wasn’t zoomed in enough to see the name.
Overall, though, it was fun and good insights! Thanks!
Aww. Sad I’m not pre-releasing in Hadley anymore (since I moved away). Agreed on all points. I went 5-1 with Hippogriff, Stag, Clasp x2 in my deck, all were superb. I frequently cited Hippogriff as the best card in my deck and stand by that.
Agreed that White is stupid good in limited this set.
Also on the “Busted” list for me is that XG target creature gets +x/+x until end of turn. It’s Giant Growth on crack… it can win the game, it can kill the enemy bomb… etc.
Stag is stupid good. I got to use it to bounce a precursor golem, swing for eighteen the next turn, and when they let two of the golems through, I +x/+xed them all for game?
I went 1/2 but in my defense my luck is attrocious. I read your thing about building decks, but have you ever seen a 15 land draft deck get swamped three games in a row? How about my favorite trick of getting a hand of no lands, and then mulliganning into 6 lands? I can’t get away from my curse :’(
Bahhh! I was in the store for the first flight, but by the time you must have gotten there I was drunk in Amherst. I wish I had known you were going to be filming. I’m assuming Kevin must have left also?
Anyway, I 4-0′d the first flight along with Tourloukis. Dan, I was also running Hippogriff and Stag, both of which were absolutely amazing. Additionally, I had the luxury of cracking Venser, Contagion Engine, and Skithyrix (which I didn’t even end up playing). I managed to pull off turn 5 Venser, turn 6 Engine at least twice.
Also, Venser + Hippogriff is stupid, especially with Spellbombs.
lol @ “especially with Spellbombs” I like it better with Mindslaver you know. ;-)
I wish i were more prepared for the interview haha. I wanted a surface for the previews but it was ocvered with 3 sealed pools.
Hah, yes. I love me some Vintage combos in Sealed.
You gotta love all the cards, Matt
