@Vito: A good draft, but I think you should snatched up one of those Scarecrows. Since you’re playing red/green storm the castle, you can bet that everyone else will probably be picking up some nice flyers (speculation since you yourself didn’t see many), and one scarecrow alone really messes with that. And yes, Black is going both ways, black is the bisexual of the magic colors.

Geistflame over Kessig Wolf Run? I disagree with this pick since wolf run still leaves you open (splashable with either red or green), and is a HUGE threat. How do other people feel about this?

Also, in construction, Makeshift Mauler over Civilized Scholar seems *really* loose to me. The 5/1 with your bounce/nightbird’s clutches and/or the looter seems infinitely better.

Well first pick was pretty obviously and why not picking prey upon over devil? Because of that sac creature deal 2 guy? lol. Come on.

I don’t get why you’re so average at drafting. You draft enough to know the proper power levels of cards, but you make mistakes while drafting all the time. I appreciate you uploading content, but I hope nobody that is new to the game watches you to learn.

round 2 game 2 should have played viper on ur turn to flip the doublestriker then he couldnt have attacked with it or if he did it would have only traded with one guy.

Vito, I definitely liked the draft portion of your draft over most of your other videos. I found it one of your more informative ones and you definitely had a more confident tone (I thought you were going to snap pick that foil wolf run p1p1 but was pleasant surprised you picked the geistflame).
The only gripe I had was you not taking heretic’s punishment since ambush viper is imo one of the weaker 3 drops, on par with things like ironsmith and hound in most scenarios so taking the punishment had so much more upside, so I didn’t like the conclusion you came to.
I do enjoy the insight of the blue splash since it shows that you had a deeper understanding of the format.
P.S. Civilized scholar 11th pick?

@Vito
The only reason I can think of for not taking Kessig Wolf Run p1p1 was that you wanted to avoid G/R which you then pro-actively drafted anyway. And then you wondered why you were getting passed very good cards outside your colours in pack 2. Passing a G/R bomb right off the bat will tend to do that because I’m quite sure the player on your left took it as a signal that G/R was open. If it’s any consolation he certainly suffered even more than you did.
Thanks for the content, but a terrible pick like that at the start of the draft is actually quite vexing to watch.

I would justify passing wolf run if you’re trying to signal red and green are open but geist flame is red sooo obviously that wasn’t the case here. There’s definitely no excuse for passing heretic’s punishment once you’re established in red though. Who cares if it’s not a creature? That card can remove creatures, finish off opponents, break through a standoff situation… what more can you ask for?

All of these comments are pretty fair. My problem has been that in Scars, it was very hard to force a color pair, so I tend to leave the utility lands alone. I’m finding its a lot easier to do in Innistrad, so I’m definitely more willing to go for them. If it was Gavony Township I’d of forced it all day, but I took Geistflame wanting to see if red/black or red/blue was an option, as RG is kind of not great.
And yeah, I shoulda took Heretic’s Punishment.

Ambush viper is a 2 drop not a 3 drop. I actually agreed that taking the ambush viper there was correct. The reason is that Vito was aggro and heretics punishment ties up mana so much that I think that running it in this kind of deck is inefficient. Ambush viper is also close to a removal spell in order to let Vito’s little guys through. In decks like this, you really have to watch your curve, there are some cards in which the card quality is good enough to offset the high cost, heretics punishment, in my opinion, is not one of those cards. I havee played it once and played against it a couple times and never been too impressed with it not only because it ties up your mana so much, but also because there is a chance that it may fail to kill a problematic creature and because you must mill someone. If that someone is you, there is the chance of milling something that you want or need, if that someone is your opponent, you may be helping them out of a mana jam or putting creatures in their yard for their spider spawning, splinterfright, gnaw, skaabs, etc.
Maybe just a personal problem, but umm … the sound effects in MTGO are so f’in annoying. I hate them with a passion, and it makes it really difficult for me to watch any of these game videos.

Not sure how long it would have delayed the inevitable, but why not just cast the 2nd spell of the turn (Ambush Viper) to flip the Outlaw in M2G2? (@ about 5:38 instead of just passing the turn) You really couldn’t afford the element of surprise there, and it didn’t really gain you anything…
Gonna take you down
