Marlon Egolf (merl2pearl) returns to the world of Modern with a spicy Blue/Black aggro/control list. If you’re looking for a deck that disrupts the opponent in multiple ways, give this one a look.

looking very spicy
This deck reminds me of my pauper list. Looked good.
Question. In your match against tron, why didn’t you dismember, snapcaster dismember? Granted, that’s a lot of damage, but then at least you might have had a chance? But since I wasn’t playing attention (I learned from watching you), did he have a counterspell in hand? Just curious. Keep playing.
As almost all of you creatures are wizards, would it be a good idea to include Sage of Fables to pump your creatures or draw cards?
when you playd vs the tron deck you was able to remove the titan with dissmember snap dissmember for 8 life and 4 mana
You should not crack your fetchlands eot if u have a delver in play, as you can shuffle away any junk that delver reveals, wich you dont like.
First game you Inquisition instead of running out Confidant. That’s actually terrible. Confidant draws you into more disruption, it is more mana effectient, he cannot go of that turn anyways, etc, etc.
Looks good, can’t watch….Delver’d out…..lol
@Ckfnpku
Playing Confidant would be terrible. That gives him an open window to resolve a pestermite or deciever when I’m tapped out. Discard not only lets me know what he has in hand and how I need to structure my turns, but also takes one of his best cards. Clearly you don’t know how to play the match, but that’s fine, it’s why I made these vids
Like Faust said, I think you should have given a shot at Dismember / Snapcaster / Dismember against Sundering during G1 Tron. I agree that it’s a lot of life to pay (10 in total : untap Watery Grave for 2 + 2×4 to pay for Dismember), but you’re rid of his only threat, and he’s left with one card in hand while you’re back in business.
Alternatively, you could have tried to block it ! It’s big, but doesn’t have trample : you could chump block with Spellstutter to buy time to draw a Doom Blade, or you could block with Spellstutter + Snapcaster + Disfigure + Dismember (4 for 1 ain’t that good, but it’s still better than losing). Just wondering if you had thought about it, or if that draw-like-a-champ sequence on his part got you on tilt.
Anyways, thanks a lot for the content, the deck was great and you piloted it well. The great number of matches helps figuring its performances. Nice video Marlon !
@jashin
definitely missed the snapcaster/dismember vs the titan. Saw it as I was editing
Why didn’t you dismember then flashback with snapcaster to stop the sundering titan
sorry those got posted while i was watching
Thanks for the video. Nice to see constructed stuff too.
Also thanks for trying to keep the tilt a little calmer. I’ve noticed the last few videos where you have made an effort to not go as far on tilt.
Ditto on that dismember/snapcaster thing, I thought you would catch that one fo sho
I actually prefer when Egolf is in full tilt mode. The games are a little more entertaining when you play with passion.
Enjoyed watching these a lot, thanks for posting!
On turn two you choose inquisition over confidant. How are you ever winning vs spellskite if you don’t run out your guys? A single delver has no shot at beating him before he assembles. You need to speed up your clock while finding more disruption.
Ergo, play confidant. Yes, if he has the combo in hand he just wins but at least playing out confidant can win if he doesn’t, which the inquisition line really has very little shot at.
The Egolf tilt rage tantrums are priceless, its what makes your videos better than most of the other dry as dust videos on the net, don’t change how you do these videos.
On another note if your unhappy with ninja, seeing how its a bear that draws one card if your behind or even and only draws cards when your already winning, and are looking for that sort of effect Shadowmage Infiltrator is legal, what about kira in that spot to protect your bobs, cold eye selkie has islandwalk, dimir infiltrator if you think you can get it through. All of those seem better than ninja.
Otherwise great videos, constructed videos rock.
You say he can resolve a 3 drop while you are tapped out if you don’t inquisition. The problem is you have very little chance to win that game without tapping out to put creatures on the board so it is better to do it as early as possible so you can then hold up disruption.
You also want information to structure your future lines of play. That’s an urge to feel safe that is a trap, you are no safer having information when there is very little you can do with it in any case.
Sorry if I came of as an ass in my first comment. But the play really is “terrible” in that it significantly reduces your chance to win that game.
dude… you know control decks are dead yeah? No amount of us trying to force one to be awesome will EVER be awesome.. magic has moved on … more is the pity.
wat about disfigure dismember nd dbl block the Titan with sprite nd vault
Despite nameless’s inability to spell words, you definitely could have dealt with the titan without paying 8 life. Like you said, you could give it -7/-7 and you had 3 power worth of dudes on the table.
Conclusion: Tron is the deck to play, comes with inbuilt serum visions, sleight of hand
and contrary to most other modern decks doesn’t cost a small fortune to built.
Egolf, hero to the masses! You’re timing for posting relevant formats on here is awesome. My local store had switched to Modern, so knowing more about the format is crucial. Of course, I wish I had played with the real cards in sets like Ravnica, Mirrodin and Time Spiral. Having missed those (due to an extended Magic hiatus) I feel I’m priced out of the top tier decks.
That being said, I learned from your videos that Dark Confidant is really good (which I knew already from watching most SCG webcasts) and that most of the other relevant good cards like bob in the Modern format are priced almost double in real life then their digital counterparts. Rather than getting priced out of Modern online, I immediately went and begged borrowed and stole to get them and Thoughtseizes, knowing that blue black is where I want to be.
Thanks again for great content. You did well not to freak out as the Tron opponent drew magic christmas land style!
I kept wondering why you didn’t play the Mutavault as a face down 2/2. Then I realized I was thinking of an awful card instead of a good one.
Hey Marlon,
It’s Steve L. from Chris’s Comics. Not sure if you are planning on attending the pre-release event there this weekend, but he is having one at 10 and one at 2. I would call ahead and get your name on the list if you’re thinking about going because he is limiting each sealed event to 18 players.
Also, this Friday we are doing Innistrad Block Constructed. Not sure if you play that format at all, but should be a good time. Maybe I’ll see you this weekend. Keep up the awesome content bro!
Not killing the Sundering Titan with Dismember and Snapcaster seems like an enormous punt.
@Fucking Everyone
I know I missed the Snapcaster/dismember thing. I mentioned it in the comments above.
HAY EGOLF U MISSED SNAPCASTER+DISMEMBER ON TITAN U FAIL!!!!1!!1!!11!
